    The Peach County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for the following vacancy:

    Position: Firefighter

    Department: Peach County Fire Department

    Schedule: 24/48-hour shifts

    Salary:  

    Recruit (Uncertified)- $14.07 per hour

    NPQ Firefighter1 State Certified- $14.81 per hour

    NPQ Firefighter II -$15.87 per hour

    The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

    The Firefighter is to respond to fire and/or emergency calls and provide needed assistance; to suppress fire and smoke at accident scenes; to educate the public on fire safety and prevention; to maintain assigned equipment, vehicles and supplies; and to prevent loss of life or property due to fire. 

    Responds to emergency calls for assistance at the scene of a fire, accident, illness and/or life-threatening situation; assesses danger; directs witnesses, residents and other persons at the scene; implements applicable policies and procedures governing safety, infectious control, and hazardous materials; determines if there are persons in danger and works to remove them from harm; provides authorized patient care; extricates accident victims; and suppresses and/or contains fire and smoke.   

    Drives and operates emergency vehicles to include fire trucks; operates a variety of firefighting and fire suppression equipment, apparatus and tools, including aerial ladders, fire pumps and hoses, breathing apparatus, saws, radios, etc. 

    Inspects vehicles, apparatus and equipment; ensures vehicles are properly equipped with fire suppression equipment and supplies; performs preventive maintenance and cleaning; changes oil and filters on vehicles; ensures the ready state of equipment and supplies; replenishes supplies as necessary; identifies needed repairs on vehicles; makes   repairs when possible; and maintains the cleanliness and safety of the fire station.  

    Completes and maintains records paperwork documenting shift activities, incident response actions, and other related activities; enters fire reports into department database; and downloads National Fire Information Response System (NFRIS) data.  

    Plans and implements activities to educate the public regarding fire safety, fire prevention, and related topics; conducts fire inspections for business establishments; assists persons with the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors; demonstrates proper use of child passenger safety seats; and conducts tours, and lectures upon request. 

    Assists other emergency services agencies as needed. 

    Operates a personal computer, telephones, copiers and other general office equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, including the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.

    Performs other related duties as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    High school diploma or GED and vocational/technical training in fire suppression; supplemented by up to 6 months previous experience and/or training; in fire prevention and suppression; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  Must possess and maintain Fire Fighter certification from the state of Georgia and a Georgia driver’s license.

    Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate and control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools and/or materials requiring complex and rapid adjustments. 

    Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.

    Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

    Functional Reasoning: Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.  Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.

    Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.

    ADA COMPLIANCE

    Physical Ability: Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
